Whether you are passionate about the environment, concerned about climate change, or just trying to be on top of the latest 'it's cool to be green' trend, this is the place for you! Of course becoming a true environmentalist takes commitment, passion and time, but, as the Greenies tell Lisa Simpson, 'there's an opening at the poser level' and you can only improve from there...
- Get Informed (and obtain a free accredited degree sure to impress employers and even your parents!). The last thing the environmental movement needs is people spouting off things which are incorrect... You MUST be able to hold your own in any argument...
- Walk the Talk. This is the hard part, but once you've accomplished these steps you are well on your way to success.
- Switch to an accredited green energy supplier
- Stop driving everywhere, walk or take your bike instead
- Watch what you eat and buy - meat production produces a huge amount of greenhouse gas and flying your favourite gourmet treats from Italy may seem like fun but its hurting the planet...
- Use less of everything - energy, water, consumables - everything!
- Get the look. This is the fun part. Once you've started eco-shopping above you've made a start, but there are so many levels of environmentalism. For example hard core activists must wear hemp rags found in rubbish bins, stitched together with dead vines, with crushed rock paint proclaiming something anti-government. Thankfully there are varying types of ecofashion so you're not confined to this!
- Encourage others. A true environmentalist likes to spread the word, so get out there... convert your neighbours, talk at your school, sing on the sidewalk and let people know you're an environmentalist and you're here to protect the environment.
